One of the renowned umpires around the world and part of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) elite panelist, Aleem Dar has completed 200-ODI after he marched on the field in Dublin to officiate the match between West Indies and Bangladesh.
Aleem, who officiated his first match in his home town Gujranwala between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, credited Pakistan for giving his own unique identity.
“I still remember the day when I first served as an umpire. Coincidently It was my home town Gujranwala and Asad Rauf was along with me as the field umpire,” recalled Aleem.
The former first-class cricketer said that the 19-year long journey as an umpire was tough for him and he thanked his family for supporting him throughout.
“It is not easy to remain away from your family. I faced ups and downs through these 19 years,” said Aleem while adding that “Being an umpire sometimes you take right decisions and sometimes wrong but a good umpire is the one who tries to not make many mistakes,”
Aleem, who has now joined Rudi Koertzen (209) and Billy Bowden (200) to complete 200-ODI milestone, called ICC World Cup 2011 a memorable cricketing event of his life as an umpire.
“In that tournament, all the 15 referrals against my decisions were upheld by technology which indeed was an achievement for me,” ICC Umpire of the Year from 2009-2011 said.
On the other hand, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) also congratulated Aleem for achieving this feat which indeed is an honor for the whole country.
“Aleem is one of the prominent umpires for almost a decade and we want him to stand tall at ICC events in future,” PCB’s MD Wasim Khan said.
Wasim coined Aleem as an inspiration to all youngsters and retired cricketers who are seeking opportunities within the game. “Aleem’s skills and temperament is an inspiration to all those finding ways to indulge in the game of cricket,” he said.
