Govt planning to register informal labourers with EOBI: Zulfi Bukhari

ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Zulfikar Bukhari here on Sunday said that the government was planning to register informal workers with Employees Old-Age Benefit Institution (EOBI).    

Talking to journalists, Zulfi Bukhari said that Ehsaas Labour Welfare and social protection group recommended the registration of informal workers with EOBI to give them pension, social security and welfare packages.

He said, “The labour expert group is working on various initiatives and reviewing the legislative designs to ensure the welfare, safety and protection of this segment of the society at provincial and federal level.”

Bukhari said around 0.38 million workers were registered with EOBI and a large section of labour community, working in agriculture and construction sector, was still naïve to their rights.

He said the initiative would to be taken as the part of ‘Mazdoor Ka Ehsaas Programme’ and a survey would be carried out to develop a complete and accurate database of the informal labour sector.

Earlier, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Syed Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari on May 1 had said ‘Mazdoor Ka Ehsas Programme’ was a mega project of welfare of workers.

“Under this programme, there are 115 different programmes of various components,” Zulfiqar Bukhari had said while addressing a ceremony in connection with Labour Day organized by CDA Mazdoor Union in Islamabad.

He had said the government was working to include the informal labor community into Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) to uplift their living standard.
