KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday expressed outrage over the establishment of encroachments and check posts by Rangers and police adjacent to roads, ARY News reported.
A case related to the elimination of encroachments was heard at the Supreme Court Karachi Registry.
The top court expressed anger over Rangers and police for constructing check posts and other encroachments on roads.
During the hearing, Municipal Commissioner told SC that traffic flow was affected due to the construction of check posts belonging to Rangers and police. The top court issued notices to Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh and Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh.
The apex court also summoned complete report from Rangers, police and other institutions on the matter.
As the hearing went underway, the top court also heard a petition regarding commercial construction on military land near Do Talwar roundabout.
Area residents complained that two-acre residential land was allotted for commercial purposes. Justice Gulzar Ahmed directed the Attorney General to submit a report and remarked that Ocean Tower was also illegally constructed as it was previously a residential building. Justice Ahmed added, “A commercial building is being constructed before PSO pump.”
The SC judge asked, “What Lines Areas project is doing? Have you seen its miserable condition there?”
The top court questioned for the deteriorated situation of University Road and Civic Centre.
DG Lines Area replied that the department was facing financial problems. The judge said, “All issues will be resolved if you reduce the number of extra employees.”
